  • Will I need a referral?
    If you live in California, then yes! Per California law, we require all of our clients to obtain a referral from a prescribing physician such as a primary care physician, psychiatrist, gastroenterologist, etc. prior to our first session.
  • Are all of your dietitians in-network with the insurance companies listed above?
    No, not all of our dietitians are in-network with each of the insurance companies listed above. For more information about which insurance companies a specific dietitian is in-network with please go to their profile on our About page.
  • What if you don't take my insurance?
    If we are not in-network with your insurance company or the dietitian you want to see is not in-network with your insurance we can still take you on as a client. We provide you with a superbill at each of your appointments that you can submit to your insurance in hopes of reimbursement. The session fee must be paid to Untamed Nutrition Therapy at the time of service.
  • What are your rates?
    Fees vary based on the type of appointment you are scheduling. Please note that if we are in-network with your insurance company and our services are covered in your plan you will likely be responsible for only a portion of these fees. Out-of-pocket estimates are as follows: ​ Initial 90-minute Individual Nutrition Session: $270 Initial 60-minute Individual Nutrition Session: $180 60-minute Individual Nutrition Session: $155 30-minute Individual Nutrition Session: $80 Monthly Subscription: $750 (5 sessions, including the initial session)
  • Will you check my benefits prior to my first session?
    Yes, after a new client completes their free discovery call we always check your insurance benefits and let you know the estimated cost of care prior to an initial session.
  • What is your cancellation policy?
    If a client misses a session or does not cancel a session within 24 hours of the appointment then they will be responsible for paying the out-of-pocket rate for the session. There is no penalty for rescheduling or cancelling appointments with more than 24 hours notice.
  • Do you work with adolescents?
    Yes! Our dietitians offer services to adolescents and families through a Family Based Therapy treatment approach.
  • How do you collaborate with my other treatment team members?
    Your dietitian will determine with your other treatment team members how often communication takes place about your care. Starting on January 1, 2024, Untamed Nutrition Therapy, will be charging a small fee for clinicians needing to collaborate with a client’s treatment team (therapist, medical doctor, psychiatrist, etc.). The fees will be as follows for any communication that happens between your dietitian and another provider on your treatment team. 1-15 minutes = $15 16-30 minutes = $30 31-45 minutes = $45
  • Which states are you licensed in?
    We are licensed in California, Michigan, Utah and Washington.
  • Do you offer telehealth or in-person services?
    We offer both Telehealth and in-person services. Our in-person services are offered at our home office in Kalamazoo, MI. We offer Telehealth services through Simple Practice, a HIPAA compliant Telehealth network.
  • What is a registered dietitian nutritionist?
    Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) are nutrition experts who have met the following requirements to earn a RDN credential: Completed a minimum of a bachelor’s degree Completed 1200 hours of supervised practice through an ACEND accredited Dietetic Internship Passed a national examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration Ongoing continuing professional educational requirements to maintain registration
  • What is a CEDS
    Our dietitians are and/or are working on their CEDS credential. A certified eating disorder specialist (CEDS) is a dietitian with extensive additional experience and training in the realm of disordered eating. Dietitians with this credential have completed all formal requirements by the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals to obtain and maintain this certification.
  • What is medical nutrition therapy?
    Medical nutrition therapy is a focused, customized, and comprehensive nutrition therapy approach that helps to educate, assess, equip, and support individuals who are navigating nutrition-related complications. MNT or medical nutrition therapy is an evidence-based approach implemented by Registered Dietitians that highlights the importance of an individually-tailored nutrition plan and assessment. Your RDN will help you set both short term and long term goals and help nurture the importance of self-care while equipping you with tools and strategies to help foster your progress towards your goals.
  • What is Intuitive Eating?
    Intuitive Eating is an anti-diet, evidence-based approach to nutrition that focuses on making peace with food and beginning to cultivate a trusting and connected relationship with food and your body. Intuitive Eating consists of 10 principles which were developed by Evelyn Tribole, RD and Elysee Resch, RD. These principles highlight the importance of reconnecting with our bodies, rejecting diet mentality, and breaking free from diet culture.
  • What is Health at Every Size (HAES)?
    Health at Every Size (HAES) is an inclusive approach to healthcare. As a practice, we focus on the importance of weight-inclusivity and weight-neutrality. The HAES approach emphasizes the importance of rejecting diets and weight loss goals in favor of building appreciation, trust, and respect for oneself.
  • What if I want to lose weight?
    Intuitive Eating is about healing your relationship with food and is not focused on helping you lose weight. As you begin to build your relationship with your body and start to honor and respect yourself, some individuals may maintain their weight, lose weight, or gain weight if their bodies have been suppressed through dieting and restriction. Every person's journey with Intuitive Eating is unique and therefore will be different.
